Kate and Brian will both take a new surname upon their marriage. Why?

• We didn't want to hew to patriarchal customs by defaulting to the groom's last name.
• Neither of us liked the sound of "Brian Talbert" or "Kate Denny".
• We wanted to share a last name as a symbol of our togetherness.

Update 5/27/06: We have chosen "Estlin" as our new last name.
